Fly Fishing Destinations: Other Adventures

I enjoy exploring new fly fishing destinations whenever an
opportunity presents itself. I have fished in several states and continue to
travel and fish as much as I can. So much water, so little time! I am
looking forward to expanding this section to include highlights from some
favorite destinations. A new adventure is just a riffle and rise away.
Montana -
August 2003
I helped my sister's company out in early 2003 by developing their web site and
initial presence on the Internet. For my efforts, they were so kind as to reward me with a free
trip to the
Spotted Bear Ranch in Montana. The SBR
is a fly fishing ranch on the banks of the South Fork of the Flathead River, on
the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It is a truly awesome place, up in the
Rocky Mountains of Montana near Glacier National Park. We spent a week there
(8/17 to 8/23) fishing for native Westslope Cutthroat trout, and just having a
great time in general. There were lots of fires around us, and it got pretty
smoky toward the end of the week, but it really did not impact our trip at all.
The weather was beautiful, and the fishing was awesome. Shelley didn't fish, but
we spent a really fun week together, and she did an excellent job as the Riffle
and Rise photographer. (photos)

June 2002
Like so many, I have always wanted to fly fish the big rivers of Montana. In
late June, 2002, a week of vacation in the Bozeman area allowed us an
opportunity to get our lines wet in the Madison River. We had a great vacation
with family and friends, staying in a beautiful house on 20 acres just across
the road from the Gallatin River. The Gallatin and many other rivers were pretty
well blown from high run-off conditions, but the Madison was
in great shape while we were there. (photos)
